With 16 million, India tops world in number of migrants abroad
- Indian tops the world in the number of migrants sent abroad and more than half of the 16.59 million live in the Gulf region, according to a UN report.
- The 2017 International Migration Report released here on Monday showed that during this century's period of rapid globalisation, the number of Indian migrants doubled from 7.98 million in 2000.
- Mexico sent out 13 million migrants, the second highest number.
Trump: India ‘leading global power’
- US President Donald Trump on Monday unveiled his first National Security Strategy (NSS) with “re-awakening of America”, “America First” and “principled realism” as key themes.
- The 70-page document described India as a “leading global power” and sought increased Indian assistance in South Asia. “We welcome India’s emergence as a leading global power and stronger strategic and defence partner,” the NSS said.

No proposal for mandatory Aadhaar linkage for property deals: Govt
- Housing and Urban Affairs minister informed in the parliament that there was no proposal to make Aadhaar linkage mandatory for property transactions
- In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, however, said the rural development ministry had advised the states and union territories to explore the possibilities of using consent-based Aadhaar authentication for registration of properties under the provisions of the Registration Act, 1908.
India thrash Nepal 10-0 in staff U15 women's championship
- The India U-15 Women’s side scored five goals in each half as they thumped Nepal 10-0 in a totally one-sided group encounter of the ongoing SAFF U-15 Women’s Championship being held at Dhaka, Bangladesh.
- Hattricks by Priyanka Devi and Sunita Munda was complimented by a brace from Lynda Kom, with goals from Santhiya and Anay Bayi completing the rout.
Steve Smith edges closer to Bradman with new ICC rankings high
- Steve Smith’s imperious Ashes form has seen him move level with Len Hutton and closer to Don Bradman at the top of the ICC’s Test player rankings system.
- The Australian captain’s 239 in the series-winning third Test in Perth saw him reach a career-best 945 points, just 16 shy the highest ever rating achieved by Bradman back in 1948.
