- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Palestine, its envoy Adnan A Alihaijaa said today without elaborating when it will take place.
- His announcement came on a day when the United Nations Security Council convened an emergency meeting tomorrow after US President Donald Trump, in a controversial move, recognised Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
Aadhaar linking deadline to be extended to March 31, 2018
- Attorney General of India K.K. Venugopal on Thursday 7 submitted before the Supreme Court that the government intends to issue a notification on December 8, extending the deadline for mandatory linking of Aadhaar with services from December 31 to March 31, 2018.
- This extension would include 139 government subsidies, benefits or services, which are funded out of the Consolidated Fund of India as per Section 7 of the Aadhaar Act of 2016. The deadline for Aadhaar linkage for these services is currently December 31, 2017.
- A survey has revealed that in the United States, Telugu is the most widely spoken language at home after Haitian among people whose first language is not English.
- The United States Census Bureau, in its five-year estimates (2012-2016), has found that 3,21,695 people, between the age of five and older, speak Telugu and 280,867 speak Punjabi at home while Bengali and Tamil speakers number 2,59,204 and 2,38,699 respectively.
Cristiano Ronaldo wins his 5th Ballon d'Or award as best player
- A decade of dominance as the world’s two best soccer players has left Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi level with five Ballon d’Or awards each.
- Despite once trailing 4-1 to his longtime rival, Ronaldo moved level after winning the award again on Thursday.
- Messi was second in the voting and Neymar, who left Barcelona in the offseason to join Paris Saint-Germain for a world record transfer fee of 222 million Euros ($262 million), was third.
Nagpur's Kanchanmala becomes first Indian to win gold at World Para Swimming Championship
- City's visually impaired swimmer Kanchanmala Pande scripted history for India on Thursday. Kanchanmala became the first Indian to win the gold medal in the World Para Swimming Championship.
- She created ripples in the ongoing championship in Mexico and secured the top spot in 200 meters medley event in S-11 category.
